Stand Up
Each one of us can be social entrepreneurs, individuals with innovative solutions to society's most pressing social problems. They are usually ambitious, persistent, and enjoy tackling social issues and offering new ideas for wide-scale change.
They do it rather than leaving these societal needs to the government. Social entrepreneurs find what is not working and solve the problem by changing the system, spreading the solution, and persuading society to take new leaps and to achieve change.
These social entrepreneurs often seem possessed by their ideas, committing themselves to maximizing their efforts. They are both visionaries and realists, concerned with the practical implementation of their vision above all else.
These entrepreneurs present ideas that are user-friendly, understandable, ethical and engage in widespread support in order to maximize the number of people who will stand up for their idea, and join in to make it a continued success.
Over the last few years, the citizen's have discovered that there is nothing more powerful than a new idea in the hands of a first-class entrepreneur.
While business entrepreneurs create new industries, the social entrepreneur comes up with the solutions to social problems and then implements them on a much larger scale.
We have several social entrepreneurs in our community.
-Len Rogers, Stonewall Society. He developed a web site to offer a place for the gay community to not only entertain the gay community but also to showcase their talents.
-Jim Lawson, Brazen Society. He is developing this portion of the website, to show the bolder side of the community and to touch on things that are often overlooked.
-Mountain State Bears, developed to help populate a genre and to offer a place for the bear community to come together.
-Mountain State Knights, developed to help populate a genre and to offer a place for the leather community to come together.
-Terry Urban, founder of West Virginia Queer News, developed to give West Virginia a resource that offers the community all facets of itself, from which we live.
