Gay Teens

A very common question among gay teens is whether they should they come out to their parents.
First, one of the most important rules in coming out is determining if it’s going to be more harmful than helpful. In other words, are you going to get disowned, or kicked out, or accepted? This can sometimes be a hard thing to judge but you probably know your parents’ views on homosexuality. However, it can be different when they are faced with their own child being gay. If you think that your parents are going to be strongly opposed to this, perhaps you could come out to only some very close friends. That way you have the experience of coming out, but you don't have to worry about where you are going to sleep tomorrow night. You may want to wait until after you are on your own, and can support yourself before coming out. If you think that your parents are going to be "cool" with it, then telling them can be a great service to you. You'll feel tons better about your identity, knowing that you don't have to hide it. It's a bold step, and a difficult one.
